The post holder will be responsible for the overall Service management of the Oncology service within the Oncology and Haematology Directorate. In conjunction with the Directorate Manager (DM), Clinical Lead (CL) and Matron/Deputy Matron the post holder will work across organisational boundaries to ensure appropriate services are in place and to deliver national and local strategic and operational service objectives and standards.
The Service Manager is responsible for working with the DM to ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day running of the Oncology Service. The aims of the role are the delivery of this new and innovative service, quality, Cancer performance targets, RTT standards, financial plans, service improvements, data analysis and line managing appropriate staff within designated clinical unit.
As part of the Oncology and Haematology (O&H) Directorate leadership team the post-holder will develop and implement Directorate plans to secure the agreed objectives for the O&H Directorate and make a positive contribution to delivery of health care across the local health community.
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of PTL Management as well as proven experience of managing and motivating a staff team. Previous experience of service improvement work would be an advantage, as would a track record of embedding standard operating procedures within teams.

The right candidate needs to be a proactive and resilient manager with a skill for building professional relationships at all levels of the organisation.
Essential Criteria
* GCSE English Language & Maths (or equivalent) at grade C or above
* Undergraduate degree, Post graduate management qualification
* Acute operational management experience, in a complex organization
* Minimum of three years of experience in the National Health Service, including the use of hospital IT systems
* Experience of analysing and interpreting information to identify and manage variances in performance and identifying solutions to deliver improvement
* Staff Management EPR and PTL (inpatient and outpatient) experience
Desirable Criteria
* Working in secondary care environment
* Knowledge of Trust Policies & Procedures
* First class interpersonal skills with ability to gain and sustain credibility with clinicians/ managers
* Skilled in influencing and persuading others to deliver in the context of organisational operational goals and strategic objectives
* Able to prioritise and manage the on-going work of services and/ or projects
* Results orientated and delivery against targets and deadlines
* Able to present well-reasoned and structured argument orally and in writing
* Knowledge of RTT Pathways
* Use of MS Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook
* Forward plan and organise
* Make decisions using own initiative
* Ability to deal with stressful situations such as tight deadlines and forceful complainants and in an environment of frequent interruptions
