Teaching Assistant
Location: Crewkerne
Salary: £19,.58 per annum
Contract: Term-time only (35 weeks)
Hours: Full-time
We are recruiting a dedicated and supportive Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and high-achieving school in Crewkerne. This role is ideal for someone passionate about helping children reach their full potential, supporting both learning and pastoral development.
You will work under the guidance of teaching staff to deliver high-quality learning support, assist with classroom management, and help raise achievement for all pupils.
Key Responsibilities
Support for Pupils
1. Develop an understanding of a range of learning support needs and adapt support accordingly
2. Ensure pupils’ safety, wellbeing, and access to learning
3. Support pupils individually and in groups, helping them to learn effectively by:
Clarifying instructions
Supporting weaker areas such as reading, spelling, language, behaviour or social skills
Helping pupils stay focused and complete tasks
Encouraging independence
4. Assist with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and develop suitable learning resources
5. Promote inclusion, self-esteem and independence
6. Provide pastoral care to support children’s wellbeing
7. Give feedback to pupils under teacher guidance
Support for Teachers
8. Assist in planning tailored support programmes
9. Monitor and record pupils’ progress and behaviour
10. Provide detailed feedback to teachers
11. Help maintain pupil records
12. Promote good behaviour and manage incidents according to policy
13. Liaise with parents as required
14. Support with routine testing and marking
15. Assist with administrative and classroom tasks such as photocopying and resource preparation
Support for the Curriculum
16. Deliver structured learning activities and adjust according to pupil responses
17. Support intervention programmes and record progress
18. Encourage effective use of ICT
19. Help prepare and maintain classroom resources and equipment
General Duties
20. Follow child protection, health and safety, safeguarding and confidentiality procedures
21. Support an inclusive environment and ensure equal access to learning
22. Contribute to the school’s wider ethos and team culture
23. Attend relevant meetings and training
24. Maintain professional standards of punctuality, presentation and conduct
25. Prepare classroom displays
26. Carry out additional duties as required by senior leadership
Person Specification
Experience
27. Experience supporting children of relevant age (essential)
Qualifications
28. Good numeracy and literacy skills
29. NVQ Level 2 in Teaching Assistance (or willingness to work towards equivalent qualification)
Skills & Knowledge
30. Understanding of child development and learning processes
31. Ability to identify own learning needs and seek development opportunities
32. Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and adults
33. Strong teamwork skills and understanding of classroom roles
34. Awareness of policies relating to safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, data protection, and equality
