Description
At Network Plus we’re shaping the future of essential infrastructure, and we want you to be a part of it.
As an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, you’ll play a hands‑on role in supporting our commercial team and gaining real insight into how major infrastructure projects are delivered. Working alongside experienced professionals, you’ll help analyse cost and project data, contribute to management reports, and support weekly financial performance reviews. You’ll also build practical experience reviewing and processing subcontractor applications, learning first‑hand how sound commercial decisions drive successful project outcomes.
As part of your apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto a 5‑year part‑time Quantity Surveying degree, fully funded by Network Plus. Alongside this, you will receive structured support toward achieving your Professional Chartership (e.g., RICS or equivalent) when eligible and enrolled in our internal 5-year, structured, professional development plan to aid your learning curve.
Key Responsibilities
As part of your apprenticeship, you’ll gain hands-on experience across a range of commercial activities, including;
* Rotating across different commercial teams on our United Utilities contracts, giving you broad exposure and helping you build strong commercial capability.
* Supporting the monitoring of works on site, checking progress against agreed schedules, quantities and costs.
* Learning how staff, labour and plant hire costs are tracked and helping prepare monthly cost and allocation reports.
* Getting involved in the subcontractor procurement process – from onboarding and documentation to maintaining trackers and records.
* Assisting with the preparation and internal review of subcontractor payment applications, gaining insight into commercial governance.
* Helping to prepare subcontract task orders in line with the main contract requirements.
* Attending operational and subcontractor meetings to observe, learn, and support the monitoring of subcontractor performance.
* Supporting the preparation of client and subcontractor final accounts as projects progress.
* Assisting with updates to risk and change registers, developing an understanding of how commercial risk is managed.
* Supporting the monitoring of internal spend against budgets and cost plans, and helping to develop clear, efficient reporting.
* Building your ability to analyse commercial data and produce clear, high‑quality reports and updates for the wider team.
Experience and Qualifications
* A strong interest in construction, commercial management, or quantity surveying.
* A minimum of Level 3 qualifications (A‑Levels, BTEC or equivalent) that meet entry requirements for the part‑time Quantity Surveying degree.
* Good communication, negotiation and influencing skills, or the enthusiasm to develop them over time.
* Proficient IT skills or the willingness to learn (Excel and Word essential).
* A full UK driving licence or working towards obtaining one.
* A proactive attitude and strong commercial awareness, with the desire to build this through training and experience.
