Job Summary
We are looking to appoint a Clinical Research Officer within our team, to provide flexible support to increase the number of patients participating in clinical trials in Hywel Dda University Health Board.
The post will contribute to the recruitment, education, and monitoring of trial patients and the collection and documentation of accurate data.
The post will assess and carry out clinical procedures for patients/participants and will be considered part of the clinical team during the participants' involvement with the study.
Main duties of the job
1. Initially work with supervision with the aim of working autonomously to assist in the management of clinical trial patients.
2. Assist in identifying suitable patients for entry into clinical trials by screening patient medical records, attending clinics, and/or relevant meetings.
3. Attend Multi-disciplinary Team meetings.
4. Use relevant clinical knowledge to identify patients suitable for clinical research using inclusion and exclusion criteria and utilizing NHS records, visiting wards, and outpatients.
5. Undertake research activities for which you have been trained and assessed as competent in line with the research competencies framework (e.g., receiving informed consent).
6. Carry out physical assessments, taking blood/urine samples and processing according to protocol.
7. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of treatment options, side effects, and disease processes to support patients in making informed treatment choices.
8. Ensure that trial-specific investigations are undertaken as required by the trial protocol and obtain results to establish eligibility and safety to enter the trial.
9. Safely administer trial-related treatments and drugs within the context of a clinical trial.

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge:
* Allied Healthcare professional/health-related degree
* Evidence of continued professional development
* HCPC registration if applicable
Desirable:
* Knowledge of clinical/research terminology
Experience:
* Clinical experience in the NHS
* Proven target achievement
* Proficient in data systems and Microsoft Office
Skills and Attributes:
* Ability to communicate complex information effectively
Other:
* Ability to travel within the area
Welsh Speaker (Level 1) is desirable.
