Maintenance Craftsperson (Carpenter/Joiner)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for asuccessful candidate to join CHoICE Facilities Services in the position ofMaintenance Craftsperson (Joiner). Providing services on behalf of SouthTyneside NHS Foundation Trust, CHoICE is an independent wholly owned subsidiarycompany which provides all hard and soft facility services at Sunderland RoyalHospital and associated sites.

Thesuccessful applicant will join a team of existing Building Maintenance staffdirectly employed to form part of the Estates Hard FM services within CHoICE.The Team provides planned/reactive building maintenance activities, anemergency on call service covering 365 days per annum as well as undertakingminor building related installations and building related minor works services.

The base salary range for this role is £28,303.00 £31,052.00 and is basedon current employees. However, as the role willrequire the participation within an on-call rota and require the completion ofovertime either as a result of call outs or during planned occurrences to meetthe needs of the service CFS provides, additional monetary rewards will begenerated as part of this role.

The expected earnings presented withinthis advert have been established from actual earnings earned within thefinancial year 2024/25 and are based upon similar roles within theorganisation. The additional earnings are based upon an obtained average and itwill be typical to earn approximately this amount.


Main duties of the job

The successful applicant must have a detailedunderstanding of construction processes in relation to joinery and otherrelated building works in accordance with relevant statutory and mandatorylegislation and best practice guidance. He/she must also be able to provideevidence of the completion/obtainment of recognised relevant joineryapprenticeship and ideally will have gained maintenance experience within ahealthcare environment or similar although this is not essential.

You will be expected to receive identifiedworkloads on a handheld device from the Estates and Facilities Help Desk and beexpected to organise and prioritise these daily activities to ensure the tasksare completed in the most efficient and effective manner. Support and guidancewill be provided where necessary to ensure CHoICE can fulfil its statutory andmandatory obligations.

The role will also require the individual tohave a flexible and positive approach to all activities and have the ability todeal with new scenarios as they arise. The role will furthermore requireexcellent communication skills and will require liaison directly with clinicaland non-clinical staff and service users.

Job responsibilities

PLEASE REFER TO THE ATTACHED JOB DESCRIPTION FOR FULL DUTIES OF THE ROLE

To undertake maintenance andinstallation work/activities appropriate to the core specialists skills acrossthe whole range of building related services. The post holder will also be requiredto participate in the current CFS shift pattern/system, current on-call rotaand undertake overtime when the service needs dictate for which appropriatepayments will be made.


Person Specification


Experience

* Knowledge and experience of engineering and building systems typically found within a large NHS Acute Trust
* Detailed knowledge and experience of joinery related & building requirements and regulations typically found within large NHS Acute Trust acquired through qualifications and relevant experience
* Previous experience of working within a similar maintenance environment


Qualifications

* Basic numeracy & literacy skills to level 1 or equivalent
* Basic IT Skills
* BTEC/ONC, City & Guilds or NVQ level 3 in relevant building discipline
* Completion of recognised and accredited apprenticeship in a relevant building discipline
* Advanced craft certificate or NVQ level 4
* Relevant qualification in the maintenance of fire doors


Skills and Knowledge

* Able to use his/her own initiative when undertaking a range of problem-solving scenarios to allow for a satisfactory completion.
* To have the ability to adapt to the changing demands of the role including the reaction to emergency situations,
* Able to prioritise his/her own workload ensuring that high quality patient care and SLA targets are achieved.
* Regularly provide and receive routine information and on occasion complex or sensitive information with a range Estates work colleagues, other Trust colleagues and external Trust/CFS contacts,
* Self-motivated with a desire to improve current practices.
* Able to adopt a flexible approach to working hours and on-call shift requirements
* Knowledge of HBMs
* Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance systems.


Physical Skills

* Is able to travel and work at all Trust sites,
* Is able to have the ability to undertake moderate physical activities for long periods throughout a typical working day,
* Is able to complete tasks which require short intensive bursts of effort before returning to moderate physical,
* Undertake regular moving and handling activities,
* Requirement for highly developed physical dexterity, for hand and eye co-ordination and manipulation of fine tools
