Offer description

Description Salary: £42,839 - £45,091 per annum Hours per week: 37 hours Interview date: To be confirmed after shortlisting Are you ready for a challenging and rewarding role that involves protecting the rights of vulnerable adults and ensuring their best interests are upheld? Join the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and Mental Capacity Act Team, facilitating the Council's ability to grant standard authorisations to care homes, nursing homes and hospital wards. We act as a source of support and advice to teams for matters regarding the Mental Capacity Act assessments and best interests decisions. As a Best Interests Assessor, you’ll work within a small, dedicated team to assess residents in care homes to determine if a deprivation of liberty is occurring. Responsibilities include conducting DoLS assessments, maintaining accurate case records and offering expert consultation. Assessments involve face-to-face discussions with adults, evaluating care plans and assessing their capacity to understand their care situation. Our ideal candidate will have proven experience as a registered Social Worker or Occupational Therapist, along with a Best Interests Assessor qualification. Expertise in the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and its Code of Practice is essential. Success in this role requires strong record-keeping, clear reporting aligned with legal standards and the ability to assess, evaluate, and analyse complex evidence effectively for sound decision-making. If you have good knowledge of the social impact of disability, illness and injury on individuals and families and would like to be the person to make a difference, apply now. Why us? Wiltshire Council is a friendly, welcoming place to work, with a 'One Council' ethos. Find out more about Our Identity, staff networks, and employee benefits here. Our hybrid working model means office staff are on site for at least half their hours, community-based staff carry out at least half their admin time in a workplace, and customer ‑ facing roles work entirely from their service location. We are committed to creating a workplace where positive relationships thrive and everyone feels engaged, supported and able to do their best. We do not tolerate discrimination, bullying or harassment. Everyone is expected to promote a culture of inclusion, dignity, trust and respect, guided by our vision and Our Identity. While we welcome applications from job seekers who require skilled worker sponsorship, we are not able to issue a defined certificate of sponsorship due to limitations in our sponsorship capacity. We are firmly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and to the principles of inclusion and diversity in both employment and the delivery of services.
