Main duties of the job
You will manage a case load and work autonomously on a day-to-day basis.
The role will include duties governed by the GMS contract:
* Face-to-face and telephone consultations
* Checking and signing repeat prescriptions
* Administrative tasks such as dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence
* Clinical management of in-surgery patients, including initiating investigations, reviewing results and making referrals to secondary care or other providers
* Developing care and treatment plans in consultation with patients
Job responsibilities
The post-holder will manage a caseload and address a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, providing high quality care to all registered and temporary patients.
* Be available for surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, home visits, repeat prescription checks, and other tasks in line with the practice timetable.
* Make autonomous decisions regarding presenting problems and referrals.
* Assess patients with undifferentiated or undiagnosed problems.
* Screen for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
* Develop care plans with patients in line with current practice disease management protocols.
* Provide counselling and health education.
* Admit or discharge patients and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
* Record clear, contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
* Collect data for audit purposes and comply with QoF requirements.
* Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary, avoiding hand‑written prescriptions whenever possible.
* Participate in all normal GP duties and responsibilities within primary care.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant practice policies and guidelines, including prescribing, confidentiality, data protection and health and safety.
* Commit to life‑long learning, audit, and evidence‑based best practice.
* Contribute to audit, clinical standard setting, and the development of computer‑based patient records.
* Attend training and events organised by the practice or other agencies.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree
* Full registration with GMC
* Certification of Completion of Training (JCPTGP/PMETB)
* Inclusion on Performers List
* Evidence of a commitment to ongoing professional development
* MRCGP

* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both written and verbal.

* IT skills, including word processing and database work relevant to General Practice.

* Understanding of the role of medical services within the wider public health agenda.
* Knowledge of demographic characteristics that influence health and health care in the area.

* Experience of providing primary care during day‑time and out‑of‑hours services.
* Development of areas of clinical expertise.
