Post holder will be able to assist in the daily planning and organisation of the Recovery Unit. Post holder will be expected to recover patients post operatively, providing individualised care and maintaining a high quality of evidence based clinical care. To monitor and maintain a high quality of nursing care that will achieve the high standards expected and as set down by the Theatre department. To check, witness and administer Controlled Drugs. The post holder should be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the use of all equipment routinely used in the recovery room, including PCA and Epidural pumps and all Infusion pumps safely and effectively.
Main duties of the job
Receiving patients from theatre, ensuring a complete and safe handover is given by Anaesthetists and Theatre Staff. Ensuring airway management is maintained and all clinical observations are within acceptable ranges. Pain management and control using appropriate Pain tools the administration of appropriate analgesia when required and as prescribed. An ability to set up all pain pumps used in the area and an understanding of safe practice when they are in use. Temperature monitoring, wound care and the management of drains, catheters and fluid balance.

There will be opportunities to attend post graduate courses such as the Recovery Course, HDU Course and the Anaesthetic Course. Our Theatre department has two Practice Development Nurses who contribute to the development of the team.
