Offer description

Programme Leader – Master of Fine Art (MFA) (1.0 FTE)
School of Fine Art
Location: Glasgow, G3 6RQ
Grade 8, £58,225 - £67,468 per annum pro rata
Permanent
35 hours per week

The Glasgow School of Art’s School of Fine Art invites applications for the role of Programme Leader for the Master of Fine Art (MFA).

The MFA is the School’s capstone postgraduate programme – a two-year, 30-week-per-year course that attracts a diverse cohort of artists from Scotland, across the UK, and internationally. Known for its dynamic, interdisciplinary environment, the MFA is internationally respected for its commitment to critical and experimental approaches to contemporary art.

As Programme Leader, you will have overarching responsibility for the academic direction, delivery, and development of the MFA. You will lead a team of dedicated lecturers and work closely with the Head of School, other postgraduate Programme Leaders, undergraduate Heads of Department, and senior colleagues as part of the School of Fine Art’s Senior Management Team.

You will bring extensive experience in Fine Art education at postgraduate and/or undergraduate level, along with a strong reputation as a practising artist, or in an associated profession, commensurate with the standing of the MFA.

The programme has a distinctive identity rooted in engaging with the cultural and curatorial ecosystems of Glasgow and Scotland, while operating within a global context. You will be expected to contribute to and extend these relationships, fostering connections between the programme, local cultural networks, and the international art community.

You will demonstrate a commitment to decentralised and inclusive approaches to Fine Art education. You will support students in engaging with diverse audiences, histories, and practices, challenging dominant Western paradigms. Your educational and (potentially) research activities will reflect these values, and you will provide evidence of innovative, student-centred teaching.

You will also have a strong record of high-quality research and a willingness to play an active role in one of the School of Fine Art’s research networks, contributing positively to the research culture of the School and the wider GSA.

This is a rare opportunity to lead and shape a programme with an international reputation, embedded in a vibrant local context, and playing a significant role in the future of Fine Art education.
