If you have a background in construction, DIY projects, or a passion for practical building tasks, you’ll be able to inspire learners and show them how to tackle projects safely and creatively. Patience, empathy and adaptability are essential, as many learners have SEN or SEMH needs, including autism, ADHD, anxiety or attachment challenges. Key Responsibilities Support learners 1:1 and in small groups during practical construction and DIY sessions Encourage focus, engagement and emotional regulation Build positive, trusting relationships to help learners develop confidence and independence Support behaviour using a trauma-informed, relational approach Assist Tutors with session preparation, setup, and progress tracking Encourage attendance, routine, and personal responsibility Support employability skills, teamwork and resilience Share your DIY knowledge and practical skills to help learners problem-solve, get hands-on, and see real results Person Specification You will ideally have: Experience supporting young people with SEN, SEMH or additional needs A background in construction, practical trades, or DIY projects A passion for hands-on work and showing young people how to tackle tasks safely and creatively A calm, patient and resilient approach Confidence supporting behaviour positively and consistently Strong communication and relationship-building skills A genuine passion for helping young people succeed Willingness to learn and engage with trauma-informed practice Training and ongoing support will be provided for the right candidate. If you’re motivated to use your DIY or construction skills to inspire young people and help them develop confidence, teamwork and real-world skills, we’d love to hear from you. All applicants will require the Right to Work in the UK. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. Supply Hive is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’.
