Are you a customs and trade compliance specialist looking to take full ownership of import and export operations within a global manufacturing business?
We’re looking for a proactive Customs/Logistics Compliance Officer to lead and strengthen international trade compliance across the organisation. This is a high-impact role where you’ll act as the subject matter expert for all import and export activity, ensuring the business operates confidently and compliantly within UK and international customs regulations.
🔎 The Opportunity
You will:
* Take full responsibility for all non-UK imports and exports across the business
* Act as the primary contact for HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) audits
* Lead audit readiness and ensure robust, compliant customs procedures
* Partner cross-functionally with Purchasing, Dispatch, Finance and Operations
* Oversee special customs procedures including Inward and Outward Processing
* Ensure accurate duty/VAT calculations and compliance with C79 reporting
* Manage government reporting requirements including MSS submissions and quarterly Bills of Discharge
* Liaise with freight forwarders and customs intermediaries to ensure accurate declarations
* Provide guidance and coaching to internal teams to strengthen compliance awareness
This is more than an operational role — you’ll be the in-house expert driving best practice and continuous improvement across trade compliance.
📦 Key Areas of Responsibility
Import Compliance
* Manage all overseas materials and repair imports
* Ensure correct use of customs procedures (Inward Processing / Home Use)
* Maintain authorisations and manage renewal applications
* Oversee duty and VAT accuracy
* Coordinate with purchasing on overseas sourcing and clearance
Export Compliance
* Oversee export procedures for repair units (IP / OP / Home Use)
* Ensure accurate export declarations, licences and origin documentation
* Monitor authorised export time limits and secure extensions where required
* Support dispatch operations where needed
✅ What We’re Looking For
* 3+ years’ experience in customs/trade compliance
* Strong working knowledge of UK customs law and international trade agreements
* Experience managing audits or dealing directly with HMRC
* High attention to detail with strong organisational skills
* Confident communicator able to work across multiple departments
Salary
£35,000 to £43,000 basic plus full benefits, Hybrid working 3 days office based
