Our client is a leading set of Barristers Chambers based in the north of England, specialising in Criminal, Civil and Family law. Chambers has 107 Barristers, including 10 Kings Counsel, and is widely recognised for excellence in advocacy and legal expertise.
Chambers is now seeking two dynamic and highly organised individuals to join its high-performing clerking team. The successful candidates will work across two specialist teams within Chambers newly structured civil clerking group.
These roles are key to supporting barristers through efficient practice and diary management, while also ensuring professional clients and external agencies receive prompt, effective service.
The roles:
Business, Property & Employment Team Supporting the Lead Clerk and team, this role assists with the diary, practice and fee management of barristers practicing in commercial chancery, employment law, and business disputes.
Housing & Personal Injury Team - Supporting the Lead Clerk and team, this role assists focuses on diary, practice and fee management for barristers with practicing in housing law, personal injury, and related civil litigation.
Key Responsibilities (for both roles):
Daily management of the team diary, hearing and conference bookings
Coordinating briefs and instructions from solicitors
With support - negotiating and agreeing fees
Liaising with the Lead Clerk - longer trials/senior members diaries
Ensuring efficient communication with instructing solicitors and court staff
Active support to chambers marketing and business development initiatives
Monitoring incoming emails and handling routine enquiries
Logging instructions and paperwork using Chambers case management system
Supporting barristers with workload oversight and paper fee billing
The person
Applicants will need to possess excellent organisational and communication skills, a high attention to detail and be calm under pressure. The must be confident and comfortable interacting with a broad range of people. A proactive and professional approach to team-based working is a must - full training will be provided.
