Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Facility Support Engineer to support the operation and maintenance of critical electrical infrastructure within a high‑availability data centre environment in Newport.
This is a hands‑on contract role, ideal for engineers with prior data centre or critical infrastructure experience who are confident working with live electrical systems, following strict operating procedures, and supporting business‑critical environments where uptime is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Site Support
* Provide escort support for third‑party contractors, vendors, and service providers while on site
* Ensure all on‑site activity complies with safety, security, and operational procedures
* Perform assigned operational tasks such as facility rounds and initial equipment performance assessments (with supervision where required)
Electrical Monitoring & Maintenance
* Take daily operational readings of electrical equipment, including temperatures, voltages, and current readings
* Monitor and support maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems
* Assist in identifying abnormal conditions and support resolution activities
Preventative & Planned Maintenance
* Perform and support scheduled preventative maintenance, including:
* UPS quarterly and annual maintenance
* Battery preventative maintenance
* Instrument sensor repair, replacement, and calibration
* Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all planned work activities
Critical Electrical Works
* Energise cabinets within colocation environments
* Support electrical shutdowns and switching activities such as:
* Remote Power Panel (RPP) shutdown of one source while maintaining “N” critical load
* PDU shutdowns for power meter replacement
* Master controller shutdown or replacement
* Participate in Power Interruption Testing (PIT) activities
Emergency Response & Safety
* Assist with emergency monitoring and response to abnormal operational conditions
* Follow Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs) during incidents
* Maintain compliance with all site health, safety, and physical security policies at all times
Technical Skills & Knowledge
* Fundamental understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC)
* Experience supporting electrical infrastructure across a data centre campus, from large facilities to smaller satellite sites
* Working knowledge of Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) or Building Management Systems
* Strong attention to detail and ability to follow documented procedures precisely
Required Experience & Qualifications
* OSHA or OSHA‑approved NFPA 70E certification (essential)
* 5+ years of hands‑on experience in technical or engineering environments, such as:
* Manufacturing or pharmaceutical sites
* Oil & gas or other critical infrastructure environments
* High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
Working Pattern
* Monday to Friday
* Core hours between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM
* Flexibility required to work:
* May be subject to rotating shift patterns
