What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Principal Structural Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing and analyzing complex steel structures. Your expertise will support submarine builds through advanced engineering techniques. Here’s what you can expect:
* Design & Analysis: Utilize Eurocodes, British Standards, and BAE standards to conduct FEA and classical calculations.
* Regulatory Expertise: Apply your knowledge of regulations beyond BAE Systems, including LOLER, Codes of Compliance, and Weld Specifications.
* Data Interpretation: Use computer-based analytical techniques, including finite element analysis and CAD modeling (Abaqus, S-Frame).
* Manufacturing Support: Assist in the manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation processes of submarine structures.
* Technical Outputs: Produce concept drawings, layouts, and other technical documents to meet contractual requirements and deadlines.
* Quality Assurance: Check and approve calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Your Skills and Experiences:
Essential:
* BEng/MEng in Engineering or equivalent experience.
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status, or nearing CEng status.
* Expertise in structural steel analysis and design.
* Fully conversant with Eurocodes and British Standards.
* Competent in reviewing and checking design outputs.
* Strong background in mechanical engineering and structural steelwork, with knowledge of lifting handling and LOLER.
Desirable:
* Familiarity with ABAQUS, S-Frame, NX, MathCAD, and Excel.
* Previous experience in a production or marine production environment.

The Production Engineering Department Team:
As a Principal Structural Engineer, you will collaborate with a dynamic team of designers and engineers. You’ll be part of a rapidly growing team on an exciting new program, conducting engineering assessments to support the build process. Your contributions will be vital in developing equipment and providing operational support for safety-critical systems. Relocation support is available for eligible submarine roles.
