Senior Accountant – Financial Management
Location: NHS Borders, 36 hours per week (Full Time). Agenda for Change Band 7 award range: £52,845 – £61,466 per annum.
About the Role
At NHS Borders Finance we are seeking a motivated, professionally qualified Senior Accountant to join our supportive and forward‑thinking finance team.
This role is for an experienced accountant who enjoys working in a public service environment, values collaboration and wants to apply their skills in a role that directly supports the delivery of healthcare services across the Scottish Borders.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high‑quality, accurate and timely financial information to support decision‑making across the organisation.
* Prepare and produce monthly financial reports and analyse expenditure and trends.
* Forecast the Board’s financial position and support budget setting and budgetary control.
* Contribute to statutory financial information, including elements of the Annual Accounts process.
* Provide clear and professional financial advice to non‑financial colleagues, helping them understand and manage resources.
* Support day‑to‑day delivery of the service through supervision and development of staff.
* Contribute to a positive team culture and a continuous improvement approach within Finance.
Qualifications & Experience
* Professional accountant, CCAB qualified or equivalent.
* Solid experience in financial management, reporting and forecasting within a complex organisation.
* Highly organised, analytical, with excellent communication skills to explain financial information to a wide range of colleagues.
* Proactive and adaptable, able to manage competing priorities and respond positively to change.
* Collaborative, supportive, and open to new ways of working as systems, processes and service needs evolve.
* Experience working in the NHS or wider public sector desirable but not essential.
Working Conditions
This post is suitable for hybrid working. The main base is Newstead, Melrose, Scottish Borders. Applicants are expected to work on site at least one day per week. The role operates in line with NHS Borders values.
