Health Care Assistant (Homestead Medical Centre)
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our friendly and supportive team at Homestead Medical Centre.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about delivering high‑quality patient care within a busy primary care setting. Working under the supervision of the nursing team, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of clinical services and improving patient outcomes.
You will be joining a practice that values teamwork, continuous learning, and patient‑centred care.
This position will be 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday 08:30am - 1:30pm.
Main duties of the job
The Healthcare Assistant will support the clinical team in delivering a wide range of patient services in line with practice protocols and procedures.
* Undertaking baseline clinical observations (e.g. blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation)
* Performing ECGs, spirometry, and routine NHS Health Checks
* Supporting with phlebotomy and processing patient samples
* Providing wound care, simple dressings, and suture removal
* Assisting clinicians during minor procedures and acting as a chaperone when required
* Carrying out health promotion activities and supporting patients with lifestyle advice
* Preparing and maintaining clinical rooms, equipment, and stock
* Ensuring infection prevention and control standards are adhered to
* Recording accurate clinical data using practice systems
The post holder may also be required to support audits, administrative tasks, and wider practice initiatives depending on service needs.

Person Specification
Critical Knowledge and Skills
* Ability to record accurate clinical notes
* Ability to work within own scope of practice and understanding when to refer to GPs or the wider nursing team
* Knowledge of health promotion strategies
* Understands the requirement for PSDs and associated policy
* Wound Care / Removal of sutures & staples
* ECGs
* Venepuncture
* Chaperone procedure
* Knowledge of public health issues in the local area
* Awareness of issues within the wider health arena
Experience
* Working within a primary healthcare setting
* Evidence of appropriate continuing professional development activity to maintain up to date knowledge and ongoing competence
* Evidence of working autonomously and as part of a team
* Experience of working in general practice
Qualifications
* Healthcare qualification (or working towards)
Other Requirements
* Occupational Health Clearance
* Meet the requirements and provide evidence for nurse revalidation
* Evidence of Continued Professional Development
* Flexibility to work outside of core office hours
