Hucclecote Surgery is seeking a newly qualified GP for a Mentorship role under the ARRS scheme. This fixed-term position offers an opportunity to develop skills within a supportive environment, managing a diverse patient caseload while receiving mentorship from experienced clinicians.

Mentorship GP ARR Role for 4 sessions per week (Tuesday & Friday) (for newly qualified doctors who have completed their CCT within the last 2 years).

Fixed-term appointment for 2 years commencing August 2025

Hucclecote Surgery offers an exciting opportunity for a salaried GP under the ARRS scheme to work within our well-established, stable, and innovative training GMS practice on the outskirts of Gloucester City, with a patient list size of 9,000. The practice has a 'good' CQC rating and will be moving to a purpose-built new surgery in late 2026.

This recruitment is under the PCN AR role allocation. We are seeking a newly qualified GP who has obtained the CCT within the last 2 years. In return, we will offer a mentorship contract to help develop skills, knowledge, and experience working within a busy, friendly GP surgery.

Main duties of the job

Job Summary:

The Mentorship GP AR role involves developing a recently qualified GP, providing mentorship to enhance clinical skills, knowledge, and practice within a busy GP setting.

The post-holder will manage a caseload, addressing a wide range of health needs in primary care, ensuring high standards of care for all patients.

Our typical GP day includes AM and PM sessions with a mix of 15-minute face-to-face and 10-minute telephone consultations, plus 60 minutes of bookable follow-up slots daily to prioritize continuity of care. GPs meet daily for a 40-minute coffee break, fostering team support and communication.

About us

You will be supported by an excellent clinical team, including 5 GP Partners, 2 salaried GPs, a nursing team managing chronic diseases, and a full complement of prescribing pharmacists supported by pharmacy technicians, social prescribers, mental health nurses, care coordinators, and frailty nurses.

As a training practice with two trainers and a medical student tutor, we supervise ST2s, ST3s, and host Registrars and Medical Students across various years. We value continuous professional development for all staff.

Our administrative team, led by an experienced Practice Manager, includes an Assistant Practice Manager, Patient Advisors, Medical Secretaries, and Business Support Administrators, all working to reduce GP administrative burdens.

Clinical Responsibilities:

* Undertake surgery consultations, telephone consultations, home visits, and manage prescriptions and correspondence efficiently.
* Make autonomous, professional decisions regarding patient care.
* Assess health needs of patients with undifferentiated or undiagnosed problems.
* Screen for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
* Develop care plans in consultation with patients, following current protocols.
* Provide health education and counselling.
* Manage patient caseloads, including admissions, discharges, and referrals.
* Record consultation notes clearly and contemporaneously.
* Issue prescriptions electronically, adhering to formulary and guidelines.
* Participate in training and supervision of other clinicians as appropriate.
* Perform all duties associated with a general practitioner in primary care.
Person Specification

Qualifications

* Registered medical practitioner with the General Medical Council (GMC) under article 10 of the Medical Practice Order 2003.
* Not subject to suspension under section 41A of the Medical Act 1983.
* Qualified GP with CCT or equivalent.
* Currently on the PCT performers list and not suspended.

This role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A DBS check will be required to confirm no previous convictions.
