An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced & motivated Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to lead the team on the Cancer Assessment Unit (CAU) including the Cancer Telephone Triage Hotline at St Bartholomew's Hospital.

About the Role: We are seeking a proactive and influential clinical leader to take responsibility for the effective day-to-day organisation and delivery of patient care in our busy Cancer Assessment Unit and Cancer Telephone Triage Hotline service. You will provide the highest standard of holistic patient care in conjunction with the inter-professional team, acting as a professional role model & clinical teacher.

Key responsibilities include: Providing expert clinical leadership and management for nursing and associated staff.

Ensuring high standards of care are monitored and promoted, and patient experience is central to decision-making.

Mentoring supervising staff, participating in the education and training of the nursing team.

Acting as a proficient practitioner & a resource to other clinical areas for your specialist knowledge.

About You: You will be an experienced oncology nurse with current UK professional registration (NMC) and a wide range of managerial skills. Educated to degree level you will have evidence of continued professional development & a passion for the patient experience. We are seeking someone who can demonstrate the ability to lead a team effectively, uphold our "WeCare" values, and contribute to our ambition for excellence

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead the team of registered nurses, nursing associates, health care support workers and student nurses in delivering safe effective care to patients within the Cancer Assessment unit (CAU) in collaboration with the medical and wider MDT teams,
ensuring a high-quality service to patients. The post holder will have overall responsibility for the Chemotherapy Hotline service ensuring it is adequately resourced, and audit of the
service provided.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Registered Nurse, Degree qualification in Nursing or cancer related subject.
2. Practice Assessor / supervisor qualification / teaching qualification
3. IV therapy competency
4. SACT qualification
5. UKON’s triage trained
6. REACT / SIREN or equivalent

Desirable criteria

7. Working towards master's Qualification
8. Advanced communication
9. Leadership Course
10. ILS Trained
11. Tracheostomy competency2

Experience

Essential criteria

12. Minimum 2 years' experience at band 6 or presently working at band 7
13. Experience of working in an acute environment, acute wards, A&E type setting with highly developed assessment skills
14. Experience in chemotherapy hotline triage and ability to give effective information and guidance

Desirable criteria

15. Willingness to undertake training relevant to the role
16. Patient Assessment module

Knowledge

Essential criteria

17. In depth knowledge and understanding of cancer patient clinical issues and common oncology emergencies and their management
18. Broad understanding of how an assessment unit works and how a chemotherapy hotline service should function
19. Knowledge of audit and data collection

20. Willingness to undertake any further training and development relative to the role
