Fire Prevention Officer (Public Sector)
VANRATH is assisting a large Public Sector Organisation in their search for a Fire Prevention Officer for an initial 6‑month contract, potentially extendable.
Main role
The post holder will support the Health and Safety Manager (FIRE) in delivering professional advisory services on all aspects of fire safety, actively promoting fire safety management throughout the organisation and embedding a culture of compliance.
Responsibilities
* Complete Fire Risk Assessments, fire drills and other related fire safety duties as directed by the Health and Safety Manager (FIRE).
* Support the development of a healthy and safe working environment by providing competent fire safety advice, guidance and information to all levels of staff, in liaison with other professionals as appropriate.
* Identify staff fire safety training compliance through the Fire Risk Assessment process.
* Assist in the development, review, promotion and implementation of the Client’s health and safety policy, fire safety & arson prevention policy, and fire safety management system, ensuring alignment with legal requirements.
* Assist in the development, review and implementation of fire safety standards that measure the effectiveness of existing policies, promoting consistency and continual improvement.
* Investigate fire concerns reported to the department and carry out investigations where appropriate, under the direction of the Health and Safety Manager (FIRE) or Health and Safety Officer (FIRE).
* Assist the Health and Safety Manager (FIRE) in the effective financial management and efficient utilisation of resources.
* Perform fire safety inspections with relevant managers and/or trade union‑appointed health and safety representatives and report findings with recommendations.
Requirements
* 4 GCSE passes – Grade A*–C, including English and Mathematics, or equivalent Level 2 qualification or higher relevant qualification.
* Fire Risk Assessment qualification (must include undertaking fire risk assessments) and a minimum of 12 months relevant work experience.
* Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Experience delivering training programmes.
* Experience completing reports.
* Experience working independently to manage and undertake a programme of fire risk assessments on a range of premises.
* Experience identifying/recording fire risk assessments using healthcare HTM Firecode, PAS 79 and/or similar recognised formats.
* Evidence of 12 months continuing professional development (CPD).
* Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) to meet the needs of the post fully.
* Hold a full UK driving licence.
Remuneration
£31,049 per annum, plus discount benefits.
