Full Job Description
Our Telco Partner is in search of a UK-qualified lawyer with a background in either in-house or private practice. The team is expanding, and the company is seeking an experienced lawyer with expertise in compliance, corporate governance, commercial contracts, and/or corporate M&A to join their supportive in-house legal team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The postholder will be responsible for managing corporate governance and compliance within the UK business, as well as providing general commercial and corporate advice as required for business needs and depending on experience. The work will vary according to business priorities, and there will be opportunities to broaden experience into other areas such as corporate M&A and competition law.
The role reports to the Director of Legal within the Commercial legal team and collaborates with the UK Strategy & Regulatory team and the corporate and compliance teams at the Global Head Office.
Significant areas of practice include:
* Leading UK workstreams on preventing corporate crime, including anti-fraud, anti-tax-evasion, and anti-bribery, providing briefings to directors and senior management, and developing controls within the UK.
* Leading the UK data privacy approach, advising on relevant legislation, managing records of processing activities, conducting data privacy impact assessments, working with security teams, managing data incidents, and liaising with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
* Managing Electronic Communications Code registration requirements with Ofcom, including annual updates and Regulation 16 compliance.
* Leading the UK Telecommunications Security Act working group, advising on implementation, and coordinating with security and external industry bodies.
* Managing and developing a paralegal focused on Corporate Governance & Compliance.
* Owning and updating UK compliance policies regularly.
* Building a network of external contacts within the industry.
* Managing corporate governance for UK entities, including Delegated Authority documents and powers of attorney.
* Collaborating with Group Treasury and Group Tax to ensure updates of bank mandates and financial controls.
EXPERIENCE
* Qualified lawyer in England & Wales with 10+ PQE.
* Proactive and independent worker, capable of engaging with diverse teams including at the Executive Committee/Board level and with external lawyers and advisors.
* Knowledge of legal & compliance issues within a UK corporate context, especially data protection and security, with ability to utilize resources like PracticalLaw.
* Interest in data privacy and information security, with a willingness to develop expertise in these areas.
* Experience with company secretarial and corporate governance activities.
* Experience or interest in commercial contracts, corporate M&A, or competition law is desirable.
