National Oceanography Centre – Compliance Support Officer

This position is based in Southampton or Liverpool and is a permanent, full-time role (37 hours per week).
About the role
The Compliance Support Officer will report to the Senior Internal Audit and Compliance Officer. This role is responsible for supporting day-to-day compliance activities, ensuring organisational compliance, and supporting delivery of the internal audit function. By taking a proactive and informed approach to compliance, the officer will support NOC’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and best practices in governance and compliance.
The Compliance Support Officer will support the administrative function of the team, act as a point of contact for staff queries, oversee required compliance obligations, and support policy and audit compliance. The role will help ensure that NOC staff remain informed, equipped, and aligned with the organisation’s legal, ethical, and regulatory obligations.
A key focus of the role will be designing and implementing governance training programmes tailored to different levels of staff across the organisation, as well as developing and delivering engagement initiatives that ensure all staff understand and uphold compliance responsibilities. The postholder will work closely with senior leadership, department heads, and internal stakeholders to assess training needs and ensure that governance and compliance remain an integral part of decision-making and day-to-day operations.
About you
You’re a proactive and professional individual with a solid understanding of governance and compliance principles, including internal audit practices and relevant legislation. You’re eager to build on this foundation, bringing a strong willingness to learn and grow within the role.
You have excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, and you’re confident managing multiple priorities under pressure. Your communication skills—both written and verbal—enable you to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders on complex and sensitive matters. You’re comfortable contributing to training delivery, supporting initiatives, and producing materials tailored to diverse audiences. You value collaboration, maintain confidentiality, and approach your work with curiosity, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Location
This position can be based in Southampton or Liverpool. Our Southampton site is well connected by public transport and has ample cycle parking in addition to free onsite car-parking with over 40 EV charging points. The Liverpool centre is part of the University campus and is only a short walk from the city centre and Lime Street station. The NOC has a hybrid working approach where staff can work from home up to 2 days per week. If you require a more flexible arrangement, please contact the recruitment team.
