A well-regarded secondary school in Bolton is seeking an experienced and proactive Facilities Manager to take ownership of the school site and ensure a safe, well-maintained and compliant environment for pupils, staff and visitors. This is a high-trust role at the operational heart of the school—ideal for someone who combines practical competence with strong organisation, clear communication and a genuine pride in maintaining excellent standards.

The school has clear routines, strong safeguarding practice and a calm, purposeful culture. The premises and operations function is taken seriously and valued as essential to protecting learning time and keeping the school running smoothly every day.

About the Role

As Facilities Manager, you will lead day-to-day site operations and ensure the premises supports a safe, efficient learning environment. You will work closely with senior leaders and the wider admin team, balancing reactive issues with planned maintenance and longer-term improvements.

Key responsibilities will typically include:

* Site leadership & presentation: ensuring the site is safe, clean, secure and consistently well presented

* Compliance & statutory checks: overseeing health & safety systems, fire safety, legionella/asbestos processes (as applicable), contractor compliance, RAMS and record keeping

* Maintenance planning: coordinating planned and reactive maintenance, logging issues, prioritising tasks and ensuring timely resolution

* Contractor management: sourcing, briefing and supervising contractors, ensuring safeguarding procedures and site protocols are followed

* Security & safeguarding support: maintaining secure entry procedures, visitor management routines, access control and site risk management

* Procurement & value for money: managing site-related ordering, supplies, service contracts and monitoring spend

* Events & lettings support: preparing spaces for exams, parents’ evenings, performances and school events, including occasional out-of-hours support where required

* Team supervision: line-managing caretaking and/or cleaning staff (depending on structure), setting clear routines and ensuring consistent standards

This role suits someone who is calm under pressure, solutions-focused, and confident making decisions to keep the school safe, compliant and operational.

The Site & Operations Team

You’ll be part of a professional team culture where expectations are clear and communication is strong. The school values colleagues who:

* take ownership and follow things through

* work proactively rather than waiting for issues to escalate

* keep accurate compliance records and do things properly

* build positive working relationships with staff, pupils, contractors and visitors

You’ll have the backing of senior leaders and clear systems to help you succeed—while being trusted to run the site with autonomy and professionalism.
