Transport Operations Manager – Role Overview
As a key leader at our Liverpool (Axis) Distribution Centre, the Transport Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of our transport department. This fast‑paced role requires driving operational excellence, optimising resources, and championing a customer‑first approach to foster a collaborative, results‑driven culture.
Base pay range
Salary & Hours
* Circa £75,000 per annum.
* 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities
* Transport Strategy & Operations – Oversee day‑to‑day transport function to deliver cost‑effective and efficient delivery operations.
* Team Leadership – Manage and develop transport colleagues, ensuring a high‑performance culture and effective succession planning.
* Compliance & Safety – Ensure full adherence to transport legislation, driver hours, vehicle maintenance, and health & safety policies.
* Cost Control & Budgeting – Monitor and manage transport budgets, identifying efficiencies and cost‑saving opportunities.
* Performance Monitoring – Track and analyse transport KPIs to identify trends, drive improvements, and maintain service levels.
* Stakeholder Management – Act as a key stakeholder and collaborate with various functions within the logistics network, and the wider business, including Retail Operations.
* Business Relationships – Foster strong relationships across teams to drive shared goals, enhance communication, and ensure seamless integration of transport operations with other business units.
* Process Improvement – Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
* Technology & Systems – Ensure effective utilisation of transport management systems (TMS) and other relevant technologies.
Qualifications & Experience
* Proven experience in a senior transport leadership role within a fast‑paced distribution environment.
* Strong understanding of transport legislation, compliance requirements, and industry best practice.
* Demonstrable experience managing within a unionised environment.
* Experience in budget management, cost control, and driving operational efficiencies.
* Excellent leadership, coaching, and people‑management skills.
* Strong analytical ability with experience interpreting data to drive performance improvements.
* Proficient in transport management systems and associated reporting tools.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a fast‑moving environment.
