A Vacancy at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced occupational therapist to assume the position of Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist within the acute surgical setting at York and Scarborough Trust. This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated individual to provide leadership and drive innovation across our surgical services. The primary base for this role is York, with the requirement to travel to Scarborough as needed.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with occupational therapists and multi-professional colleagues throughout the Trust to ensure the highest standards of patient care. The post offers the chance to shape service delivery, work effectively within both local and regional teams, and lead improvements across occupational therapy pathways in the surgical context.
This role provides the opportunity to enhance clinical expertise in surgical services, while developing competencies across all Four Pillars of Practice. A significant focus is placed on leading clinical transformation initiatives and improvement projects within the service. Candidates will also have opportunities to engage in research, disseminate findings, and contribute to education within their areas of clinical expertise. Additionally, there is an expectation to support the learning and development of other occupational therapists and multidisciplinary team members through training, supervision, and reflective practice.
Main duties of the job
* Provide visible clinical leadership for occupational therapy across clinical service within surgical specialties, which includes autonomously managing a complex caseload, evaluating quality and service performance, and creating a culture of learning and development.
* Use evidence-based highly specialist skills to manage a complex caseload, including specialties of vascular, urology, general surgery, head and neck, and ICU step downs.
* Provide training and support to staff, patients, and their carers.
* Be resilient and able to manage and prioritise your caseload whilst supporting the work and development of the team.
* Contribute to the department’s training of Occupational Therapy students and participate in delivering rolling training programmes for other healthcare professionals across the Trust.
* Be part of a supportive senior surgical therapy leadership team, including other clinical leads in physiotherapy, team manager, senior operational manager, and occupational therapy professional lead.
