Overview

Band 6 Specialist Respiratory Physiotherapist

This is a role for a band 5 or 6 with experience who wishes to build on skills in the specialty of Community respiratory service. The post works as part of a MDT to support and deliver patient-centred care aligned with the vision: Investing in our patient community, empowering them to live well.

The community respiratory service offers specialist outpatient clinics and domiciliary visits to assess and treat patients with long-term respiratory conditions, and a venue-based pulmonary rehabilitation program. It is a multidisciplinary team of specialist nurses, physiotherapists and an occupational therapist. The service aims to deliver multidisciplinary input for comprehensive management of patients with long-term respiratory conditions.

Main duties of the job

The Sutton Community respiratory service consists of a multidisciplinary team offering specialist, comprehensive assessment and intervention. We work with adults in the Sutton area of South West London who have chronic respiratory conditions. The post holder will work as part of the MDT, offering structured pulmonary rehabilitation assessments and classes in line with local and national guidelines, and undertake timely audits to benchmark service quality and standards against national targets. They will contribute to home oxygen service assessment and review, and airway clearance therapy for patients under respiratory care.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

* Essentials: Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
* HCPC Registration
* Up to date CPD including recent postgraduate courses relevant to the clinical field

Desirable

* CSP membership
* Membership of a specialist interest group or network
* Recognised postgraduate qualification (e.g., MSc in Respiratory Care)

Experience

* Essentials: Post-graduate experience covering core rotations; respiratory physiotherapy/pulmonary rehabilitation; MDT working
* Desirable: Previous community experience; experience in respiratory care including outpatient clinics, ITU and medical wards; post-graduate research projects

Knowledge and Skills

* Evidence-based practice; CPD ongoing
* Effective written and spoken communication
* Ability to manage own caseload and time; work independently
* Basic computer skills

Desirable: Research and audit skills

Personal Attributes

* Flexibility and ability to cope with change
* Demonstrates initiative

Other requirements

* Current Driving Licence and access to a car for work purposes
