Overview
The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe and a leader in cancer care with a successful record of innovation in nursing care, pioneering new treatments and the development of anti-cancer drugs.
This important role involves the day-to-day operational management of the Cancer Services Division, PA and secretarial services. This role is focused primarily on the services delivered on the Sutton site; however, the post holder will work closely and provide cross cover for the Chelsea site post holder. In addition to operational management, the post holder will lead key service improvements aimed at delivering a high quality, comprehensive administrative service.
There are two Administration Business Managers - one for the Sutton site and one for the Chelsea site - and they are responsible for line managing the medical secretary team leads on each site.
Key responsibilities
The Administration Business Manager reports to the Deputy Clinical Business Unit Manager and is responsible for the management of all medical secretary and administration staff within the Cancer Services division. The role includes:
* Ensuring a high quality service is provided for patients and specialties at all times.
* Providing strong and effective leadership to medical administration teams.
* Delivering against key targets and performance indicators; analysing and reporting service level activity and access performance information for a range of audiences.
* Developing measures to monitor activity for the division and setting targets where necessary.
* Liaising with the Deputy Divisional Director and Finance Manager on any areas of concern relating to performance.
* Representing the Division at meetings and ensuring outcomes and actions are communicated back to the Division in a timely manner.
* Contributing to the investigation of patient complainants to ensure timely responses and identification of trends with remedial action.
* Assisting the Deputy Divisional Director in considering demand and capacity for inpatient and outpatient activity and contributing to pathway mapping as requested.
* Identifying and implementing initiatives to improve services; communicating effectively at all levels within a complex multidisciplinary environment.
Qualifications and requirements
Essential
* Educated to degree level or evidence of equivalent level of ability/NHS experience
* ECDL qualification or equivalent qualification/experience - able to set up spreadsheets and documents and input data into pre-prepared spreadsheets and word documents
Experience/Knowledge
* Experience of working to strict deadlines and using resources effectively to achieve deadlines
Desirable
* Experience of managing an operational team, including motivation, development and the assessment and delivery of training needs

* Highly organised approach and ability to prioritise your own work as well as others
* Work well under pressure and proactively manage a busy workload
* Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem solving

* Strong keyboard skills and ability to work continuously at a computer
* Strong sense of quality and ability to lead by example, ensuring high customer service standards
* Ability to work with a high degree of flexibility including working hours
