This is a full-time post for a Consultant within the Public Health Service, line managed and professionally responsible to the Director of Public Health (DPH), with additional clear lines of accountability to other Strategic Directors, linked to your responsible workstreams.
The Public Health Service in Sheffield is part of the Public Health and Integrated Commissioning Directorate, led by the Director of Public Health and delivered by a team of specialists. Our goal is to improve and protect public health and reduce health inequalities through coordinated system-wide action. The service consists of five teams, responsible for delivering core specialist functions and bringing expertise to the delivery of other Council priorities around health and wellbeing as well as developing our own service, its staff and priorities and managing the PH Grant.
It is expected the job will have very regular interactions with stakeholders across the health and social care system in the city including relevant Government agencies and departments and interactions with Chief Executives and Director teams of all the health and social care organisations. Overall accountability will be to the DPH and the Council as well as to the RDPH and CMO, providing assurance linked to the health and wellbeing of the population and against the outcomes of our Fair and Healthy Sheffield Plan.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant in Public Health who will work across a range of service areas and in partnership with other stakeholders and service providers, helping to deliver the Council's public health functions and priorities.
You will be a forward-thinking consultant with drive and strong leadership skills to help shape decisions over a range of public health functions. You will help to lead your team to drive forward our public health agenda within Sheffield and you will be responsible for a specific portfolio of work.
You will need to be an excellent communicator who can work closely with colleagues across the city to maximise public health outcomes and will have experience of working with a wide range of partners and organisations including local authorities, voluntary sector, NHS organisations, academic institutions and the media. You will also be politically aware and able to engage effectively with elected Members.
You need to be motivated, proactive and innovative, with change and project management skills and experience.
The successful candidate will be able to cope with changing demands and will demonstrate confidence in leading on complex public health issues, advising local authority colleagues and other key stakeholders, making recommendations regarding services and wider determinants of health. You will use well developed negotiation and motivation skills and public health leadership skills to deal with complex public health issues that may arise.
The successful candidate will need to be registered with GMC, GDC or UKPHR public health specialist with significant experience in all areas of public health practice.
