The Urology department manages administrative processes for patients with urological issues in Bristol and the South West, including RTT and cancer pathways. Knowledge of RTT and cancer pathways would be advantageous.
The role involves working closely with the Consultant Team and Patient Pathway Coordinator, deputising as needed.
The ideal candidate will work calmly, logically, and methodically, multitasking in a busy environment with complex patient pathways.
Main duties of the job
The Urology Patient Pathway Assistant supports the Patient Pathway Coordinator in managing inpatient and day case waiting lists, coordinating admissions, pre-operative clinics, and theatre lists.
This role requires close liaison with colleagues, staff, GPs, patients, and the public. The candidate should work well within a team and use initiative to support administrative functions, ensuring high-quality service delivery.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
*Support the Patient Pathway Coordinator in ensuring patients are admitted efficiently within national guidelines and trust policies, including NHS Constitution standards, waiting times, and booking rules.
*Manage the waiting list, including adding, removing, and modifying patient entries.
*Book theatre lists, outpatient appointments, pre-admission, investigative treatments, and procedures, ensuring patients are informed and paperwork is completed.
*Provide administrative support to clinical teams, including completing clinic letters and managing correspondence.
*Maintain patient notes, photocopying, filing, faxing, and other administrative duties.
*Advise patients on admission procedures and waiting list status.
*Handle enquiries courteously and helpfully from patients, GPs, and other services.
*Process incoming mail and clinical reports, ensuring timely attention.
*Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
*Liaise with partner organisations and MDT coordinators to facilitate patient treatment.
*Cancel or reschedule appointments and procedures as needed, following trust policies.
*Communicate effectively with clinical teams and management to ensure smooth operations.
*Provide empathetic support to distressed or bereaved patients and relatives.
*Answer calls promptly and relay messages appropriately.
*Cover colleagues' duties during leave or sickness.
*Undertake additional administrative tasks as required.
*Adhere to all trust policies, including infection control, data protection, and diversity policies.
The post holder may be asked to undertake other duties consistent with the role, with appropriate training and mutual agreement.
