Robert Half is recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing business based in Royston for a Head of Finance. This is a senior, hands-on role with full ownership of the finance function and regular interaction with the Managing Director and a US parent company.
The Role
As Head of Finance, you will lead and manage the entire finance operation, ensuring robust financial control, accurate multi-currency reporting, strong cash flow management, and full statutory compliance. You will act as a key business partner to the Managing Director, support acquisition activity, and serve as the primary financial interface with the US parent company and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Full responsibility for the finance function and leadership of the finance team
2. Act as Company Secretary, ensuring statutory and corporate governance compliance
3. Manage relationships with banks, auditors, tax authorities, and the US parent company
4. Lead the annual audit process end-to-end
5. Oversee all tax matters, including VAT reporting for the UK and Ireland
6. Execute quarterly royalty reporting and monthly payroll
7. Own credit control and cash flow management
8. Produce budgets, forecasts, and sales reporting for commercial teams
9. Prepare customer, warehouse, and stock control reports
10. Deliver monthly management accounts and financial reports in GBP and USD
11. Oversee insurance arrangements, including credit insurance
12. Manage the company pension scheme
13. Support acquisition reviews, financial analysis, and due diligence
14. Oversee telecommunication contracts and support IT development initiatives
15. Drive process improvements and efficiency gains, including potential use of AI
16. Deliver ad-hoc projects as required by the Managing Director
Skills & Experience
17. Proven experience leading a full finance function in a senior role
18. Minimum 5 years' experience producing monthly management accounts
19. Strong background in credit control and cash flow management
20. Experience supporting acquisitions and/or financial due diligence
21. Solid expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
22. Hands-on experience managing audits, tax authorities, and statutory compliance
23. Exposure to payroll, pensions, insurance, royalties, customer, stock, and operational reporting
24. Experience in a B2C environment is advantageous
25. Experience with Pegasus Opera and/or Sage is beneficial
26. Experience maintaining and developing accounting/ERP systems
Qualifications
27. Ideally professionally qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
