Overview
To provide secretarial support to Consultants and their teams with particular responsibility for audio typing clinic letters, discharge summaries, general copy typing correspondence, minutes and reports. To provide administrative support to the department/Clinical Team. The post holder will provide an empathic and sensitive point of contact for patients/relatives and carers, undertaking work under the direction of the Medical Secretary Supervisor. As a Band 3 Medical Secretary, you'll provide vital administrative support to clinical teams, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. Core responsibilities include managing patient correspondence, scheduling appointments, updating records, and handling telephone queries with professionalism and empathy. You'll liaise with multidisciplinary teams and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Responsibilities
* Provide secretarial support to Consultants and their teams, with responsibility for audio typing of clinic letters, discharge summaries, general copy typing, minutes and reports.
* Provide administrative support to the department/Clinical Team and act as an empathic point of contact for patients, relatives and carers, under direction of the Medical Secretary Supervisor.
* Deliver essential administrative support to clinical teams, including managing patient correspondence, scheduling appointments, updating records and handling telephone queries with professionalism and empathy.
* Liaise with multidisciplinary teams while maintaining confidentiality at all times.
* Prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment, use electronic systems efficiently, and contribute to team goals.
* Work independently while supporting the wider team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
Essential skills / Qualifications
* Strong communication, attention to detail and time management skills.
* Proficiency in IT systems (e.g., MS Office, PICS, Ocean and other systems).
* Organised, compassionate and committed to supporting patient care through excellent administrative service.
