Department Overview Working closely with key group functions (such as Finance, Supply Chain and Procurement) the Aston Martin Trade and Customs team holds responsibility for managing, maintaining and evolving the global trade and customs operating framework. Job purpose The International Trade and Customs Manager will support the Group Head of Tax in leading the UK Trade and Customs team to ensure Aston Martin remains compliant in all areas of international trade operations within the existing operating framework. Aston Martin exports to over 50 countries around the world and therefore the need to efficiently navigate and ensure compliance with global markets is vital. The International Trade and Customs Manager will take the lead on projects related to customs special procedures and in-housing customs specific technology enhancements. Key internal interfaces include Finance, Purchasing, Material Planning & Logistics, Engineering, Sales and Aftersales. Key external interfaces will be with Aston Martin’s supplier base, local Chamber of Commerce, HMRC and third-party services providers (i.e. Customs Support Group). The International Trade and Customs Manager will have a detailed understanding and experience of international trade policy and customs compliance together with an in-depth understanding of automotive or advanced manufacturing supply chain dynamics. Key duties and responsibilities As an expert in International Trade and Customs, this role will: Manage, maintain and evolve the existing trade and customs operating framework with a particular focus on implementing customs special procedures. Support the Head of Tax in creating a future state Trade and Customs target operating model. Identify and implement robust duty mitigation measures. Manage the effectiveness of the internal Aston Martin Trade and Customs team from both an operational and strategic standpoint together with providing constructive feedback on effectiveness to the Head of Tax. Act as point person for all internal customs related queries and lead on cross-functional meetings to arrive at effective resolutions. Actively develop and maintain an appropriate internal network of contacts within Aston Martin to support the operation of all import / export related activities. Take an active role in horizon scanning for future risk and opportunity areas in a rapidly evolving international trade environment, ensuring that Aston Martin takes full advantage of preferential trade arrangements. Experience and qualifications Essential experience Managerial experience within a Customs function either within practice or at a large international group; preferably with experience of automotive, retail or logistics supply chain operations. Experience of working within / setting up AEO procedures in a large organisation. Experience of Customs operations under simplified procedures. Detailed technical and operational knowledge and experience of customs and international trade legislation, especially in the UK and EU. Strong experience in managing preferential origin within a complex supply chain environment. Strong IT skills using office tools (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Ability to work cross functionally and build effective relationships Preferred experience Experience in a Customs, Tax, Logistics or Supply Chain role within an automotive, retail or logistics organisation. Knowledge of customs legislation, regulations and experience of working with regulatory bodies. International Trade / Customs qualification or an equivalent qualification will be advantageous Legal or financial background with strong comprehension of international trade policy dynamics. Preferred education/ qualifications Educated to degree level (or with equivalent experience) in a legal, business or finance subject area. Formal trade policy or customs-related qualifications (e.g. Diploma in Customs Compliance) would be beneficial, complimented with significant working experience in a similar function Required skills/ behaviours A self-starter able to work independently and / or as part of a small dynamic team.
