Band 4 Orthopaedic Team
Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner
37 hours
Permanent
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic physiotherapy assistant practitioner to join our Elective Orthopaedic Physiotherapy service. This team is focused on providing physiotherapy assessment and treatment to total hip and total knee replacement patients from post-operative day 0 through to discharge in line with our Enhanced Recovery service.
As a physiotherapy assistant practitioner, you will be allocated a delegated patient caseload by the qualified physiotherapist. For your caseload and when relevant, you will be expected to work independently, assessing the patient's needs, modifying treatment plans, and delivering this care without supervision. This will include progressing patients, reassessing, and discharging within scope of practice. Full engagement with the multidisciplinary team on your ward is another key part of this position.
You will also support the physiotherapy team through a range of non-clinical duties, from equipment ordering, referring patients to primary care teams, to assisting with statistical information collation for patient activity audit purposes. You may also be involved in assisting with support of band 2 and 3 physiotherapy support workers.
The range of conditions encountered and requirement for excellence in clinical reasoning and teamwork in this post at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh will allow the successful candidate to gain extensive and in-depth experience as a band 4 physiotherapy assistant practitioner.
Physiotherapy Services support staff development through appraisal processes, supervision, and CPD opportunities.
There will be a requirement to participate in our weekend working rota in a 1:8 frequency. There will also be a requirement to participate, on occasion, in our Enhanced Recovery extended hours service until 6pm.
Candidates must display evidence of clinical experience of work in a variety of areas ideally including Orthopaedics, and will have relevant/current experience as a band 3 therapy support worker, or as a band 4 assistant practitioner.
