Finance Assistant

The Role
We are looking for a Finance Assistant to join our Finance team, based in Harpenden, with hybrid working available. This role offers an immediate start and structured training and support, making it ideal for someone looking to build or further develop their experience within a professional finance function.
You will support the day-to-day transactional finance activities of the business, helping to maintain accurate financial records across the Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger and costing systems, ensuring transactions are processed accurately, on time and in line with company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Transactional Finance
1. Receive, check, process and accurately code supplier invoices using the invoice capture system.
2. Maintain the Purchase Ledger and liaise with suppliers to resolve outstanding invoices and queries.
3. Assist with processing employee expenses, ensuring compliance with company policy and HMRC VAT rules.
4. Process and reconcile company credit card transactions.
5. Support the preparation of requests for payment, including inputting payments onto the banking system in line with delegated authority and approval processes.
Systems & Controls
6. Maintain accurate financial records with complete and compliant supporting documentation.
7. Work within established finance controls, policies and procedures to support audit and reporting requirements.
8. Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of finance and business support systems.
Finance & Administrative Support
9. Provide general administrative support within the Finance department, including cover during periods of absence or peak workload.
10. Support ad-hoc finance and administrative tasks to ensure the smooth running of the department.
11. Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Finance Director or senior members of the Finance team.

Essential skills and attributes:
12. Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
13. Good organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
14. Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and finance systems.
15. Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
