An exciting opportunity for a 0.2 wte (7.5 hours per week) dental adviser has arisen within the Office of the West Midlands (OWM) Primary Care Commissioning Team. The OWM has been established to support the 6 Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) across the West Midlands to support the ICBs to deliver delegated responsibilities, including those for General Medical, Pharmacy, Optometry and Dental services. The Office for the West Midlands (OWM), is hosted by Birmingham and Solihull ICB, as the employing body, but the team supports the following ICBs: • Black Country • Birmingham and Solihull • Coventry and Warwickshire • Herefordshire and Worcestershire • Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin • Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Utilising Neighbourhood, Place and System the postholder will champion collaborative commissioning, focus upon developing and commissioning integrated services, that support patients to manage their own care, prevent ill-health and access services in the most appropriate setting. Main duties of the job The successful candidate will be able to Provide clinical advice to support the effective delivery of the commissioning and contract management of dental services. In summary this will include providing clinical advice: • regarding matters in relation to contract management, including quality of services, risk management and patient safety. • to the commissioning team to support the delivery of relevant statutory and regulatory duties • to support strategic workstreams, such as the implementation of the dental strategy • to the commissioning process, interpretation of complex data, including assurance framework outcomes and clinical data set, investigation / challenge of inappropriate practice • to liaise with the CQC as required regarding patient safety concerns and risk assessment of adverse CQC reports • to support with the provision of dental advice in relation to clinical incidents as part of the contract management processes. • to support procurement processes. Person Specification Education / Training / Qualifications • Inclusion in the GDC Register as a dentist Higher degree in dentistry • Member of a relevant professional body • On the Dental Performers List and in good standing Experience • In depth additional expert knowledge acquired over a significant period of time in Dentistry Skills / Abilities • Experience of providing advice on the performance of GDPs Interpersonal skills • Ability to deal with challenging situations in a formal setting • Ability to prepare and produce concise yet insightful communications for dissemination to senior stakeholders and a broad range of stakeholders as required • Demonstrated capability to act upon incomplete information, using experience to make inferences and decision making • Ability to make decisions autonomously, when required, on difficult issues • Works well with others, is positive and helpful, listens, involves, respects and learns from the contribution of others
