Overview
Help an international charity share real stories from Kenya through engaging social media content. Support tree planting, education and women’s empowerment by inspiring audiences and growing our online presence.
This role will help us share the real impact of our work with a wider audience. Everything we do happens in Kenya, but our ability to grow depends on how well we communicate those stories globally. By creating consistent, engaging content, you will help increase awareness, strengthen supporter engagement and contribute to fundraising and partnerships. Your work will directly support our mission to plant trees, build schools and empower communities. You will help ensure that the voices and experiences of our Kenyan colleagues are seen and heard. With over one million trees already planted, we have a strong impact on the ground. This role helps us translate that impact into visibility, which is essential for future growth.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a creative and thoughtful volunteer with at least 3 years’ experience in social media content creation, copywriting, or digital communications (this may be gained through employment, volunteering, education, or personal projects).
You should
* Have strong written English and be confident creating clear, engaging content for public audiences
* Have experience creating content for social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn
* Be comfortable turning real-world updates into compelling stories
* Be able to work independently and manage a small but consistent weekly workload
Other preferences
* Capture attention quickly through storytelling
* Adapt tone and format for different audiences or platforms
* Create content that encourages engagement rather than simply sharing information
Nice to have
* Have experience using tools such as Canva or similar for simple visual content
* Have an interest in environmental issues, community development or international work
* Have previously managed or contributed to a social media account with regular posting

What will you be doing?
We are looking for a creative volunteer to help us create engaging social media content that tells real stories from our work in Kenya. Word Forest is a small international charity focused on tree planting, education and women’s empowerment. Our social media plays a vital role in sharing authentic stories and building support for our work. You will work closely with our CEO and help bring to life updates from our Kenyan team, turning them into clear, engaging posts.
Key tasks
* Creating 3–5 social media posts per week (text and simple visuals)
* Turning photos, updates and messages from Kenya into compelling stories
* Repurposing existing content for different platforms
* Suggesting ideas for new content and storytelling approaches
* Adapting tone and format slightly for different platforms
We use platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Mastodon and Bluesky. We are particularly keen to grow our newer platforms, but without overcomplicating the work. You do not need to be a professional marketer. We value clarity, warmth and authenticity over perfection. You will have access to existing content and support from the CEO. We encourage volunteers to bring their own ideas and creativity while keeping the workload manageable (around 3–5 hours per week).
