EHV Technical Lead
Location: Potters Bar
Coverage: All UK Sites
Position: Permanent (fulltime)
Line of Reporting: Head of Projects & Frameworks
Role Description:
To manage the day-to-day operations on specifically assigned power projects and /or work streams
associated with EHV/ICP Contracts. To oversee the effective deployment of Test Engineers, Jointing supervision and their associated support staff in order to provide quality assurance and compliance
Principle Duties and Accountabilities:
Responsible for the management of an individual project or multiple projects (number assigned will
be subject to value, duration & complexity) and effective deployment of EHV resources to ensure
works are delivered incident free, in compliance with current company policy and specific
procedures, client specific specifications and Industry standards.
Collaboration with project and operational management
Deliver works to agreed programmes and within budgets.
Continuous development of client and supply chain partner relationships and where identified
implementation of cost effective innovations to the business.
The role will require an active involvement in the tendering and estimation process and preparation of
both tender and construction programmes requiring liaison with Estimators and Surveyors to provide
operational and technical support in the compilation of bids and feasibility studies.
The role will require specific technical knowledge on EHV Systems and XLPE
type cables at all voltages up to 400KV.
Accountable for recording and distribution of departments KPI figures and Data to the JSM SHEQ
team.
Accountable for the efficient management of the strategic stores and the use/calibration of specialist tooling/equipment
Accountable for the completion of essential Project close out data including reports, and technical support data.
General Duties:
Manage all operational aspects of specific projects and activities ensuring that they are on time,
within planned costs, to the specifications and drawings to the agreed standards.
Effectively manage customer & client relationships, playing an integral part in the preparation and
presentation to the customer of the company's technical and commercial benefits.
Work closely with the Estimating team to contribute to the preparation of accurate project estimates
and bid documentation, assisting in all relevant aspects of the company's tender & post tender
negotiations leading to the successful award of contracts for which bids have been made.
Attendance at pre and post tender meetings and providing feedback to Estimating Department
Attendance at company and external Contract Handover, Progress Review and Operational meetings
Take Ownership of assigned project and/ or multiple projects, responsible for ensuring project
administration in accordance with the company Integrated Management System (IMS) and Contract
Terms & Conditions
Promotion and implementation of all JSM SHEQ policies and procedures .
Participation in delivery of weekly "Site Safety Briefings" and "Toolbox Talks" as required
Completion of Rams and Method Statements for specific project activities
Ensure that all Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental requirements pertaining to the project are in
place and monitored.
Encourage the reporting of "Near Misses" to all staff
Regular site visits and progress review meetings with the designated Site Managers.
Identifying opportunities for introduction of new innovations and industry products
To promote the services of JSM whilst carrying out your duties to assist in creating new business
Work closely with the planning team to ensure successful planning of the sequence of the work,
establishment of key dates and the workforce required by the project works
Work with the Commercial team on all contract related issues e.g. variations, interim progress
applications for payment on account for the project works, negotiation and agreement of the project
final account, and subcontractor accounts.
Monitor and ensure that the work of direct and sub-contract resource is being carried out to
specification and program, ensuring that any defects are remedied and managed within the scope of
the contract terms.
Enforce Yellow and Red card disciplinary procedure where applicable
Attainment of relevant targets, KPl's, and business goals, maximizing contract profitability.
Production of reports, presentations and drawings/designs as required by clients
Any other appropriate duties as might be required on a contract/ project basis or required by senior
management to meet the requirements of the power F&S business.
Participation in recruitment initiatives in-conjunction with the Operations Director
Operational and technical support to Site Managers, Foremen, Team Leaders and Operatives
Ensuring that all direct reports essential training requirements are kept up to date.
Weekly progress reports to assist in commercial management and financial reporting
Responsible for completing and authorising timesheets for payroll dept. in a timely manner.

Qualifications:
HNC / ONC in Power Engineering or equivalent (this qualification is not a necessity. However, it
would be required for all new applicants applying for this position)
City & Guilds Parts 1 & 2 in Electrical Installation Works or equivalent (this qualification is not a
necessity. However, it would be required for all new applicants applying for this position)
CITB or SMSTS equivalent in site safety management
CSCS Card for appropriate level of responsibility/ management competency
Minimum 5 years' experience in Project Supervisory position
Minimum 7 years experience in Electricity Supply Industry and construction of HV and EHV power
cable systems up to 400kV and associated oil, Jointing and civil engineering works
Competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and Office Outlook
