Job responsibilities
This post is based at Staffordshire Children’s Hospital at Royal Stoke, part of the UHNM NHS Trust. The paediatric department primarily delivers acute paediatric care. The post is to provide general paediatric outpatient clinics with a Speciality Interest in Epilepsy and Neurology.
About us
Staffordshire Children's Hospital is part of UHNM, with Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital, Stafford. Outpatient clinics run at both sites. The Paediatric Department is one of the largest in the country with a number of sub-speciality areas receiving tertiary referrals. The Trust includes a purpose built Children’s Centre, inpatient wards, Children’s A&E, admissions unit and outpatients department adjacent to the Child Development Centre. The Child Health Directorate covers acute paediatrics, paediatric and neonatal intensive care, outpatients and community paediatrics, and provides consultant support to the children’s emergency centre and a range of paediatric general and specialty clinics on the County Hospital site.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Skills (Essential)
* MRCPCH or equivalent higher qualification
* Fully registered with GMC
* APLS, EPALS or PALS provider
* MBChB/MBBS or equivalent
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (within 6 months of interview) or CESR; European Community Rights APLS or EPLS or PALS provider
Desirable
* Further Higher Degree (e.g., MD, PhD)
* Level 3 safeguarding training
Clinical Experience
* Clinical training and experience in general paediatrics equivalent to UK standards; CCT in paediatrics or existing Practising Consultant in General Paediatrics
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems emergency and elective within general paediatrics
* Experience and understanding of evidence-based medicine and clinical audit to support decision making
* Experience of or active interest in Paediatric Palliative Care Medicine
Desirable
* SPIN accreditation or equivalent for area of sub-speciality
Management and Administrative Experience
* Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and respond to service needs
* Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of paediatric service
* Good understanding of NHS structure and processes
* Experience with clinical audit

* Formal management training
* Evidence of managerial experience
* Evidence of initiating change through the audit process
* Leadership qualification
Teaching Experience
* Experience supervising junior medical staff
* Commitment to teaching clinical skills and continuing medical education
* Experience teaching basic skills to undergraduate medical students

Research Experience
* Ability to collect and submit data for collaborative studies and apply research outcomes to clinical practice
