Electrical & Instrumentation Technician
Description:
The role
The Electrical & Instrumentation technician will possess a comprehensive range of electrical and instrumentation knowledge with suitable experience for troubleshooting and installation work. The ideal candidate will have qualifications in hazardous area working (CompEx) and ideally within wiring regulations (17th edition). Experience working within top-tier CoMAH regulations, including environmental, health, and safety legislative requirements, is essential.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, responsibilities include:
* Ensuring all duties comply with legal and company policies on quality, health & safety, and environment
* Promoting a positive health and safety culture through good housekeeping, PPE use, reporting near misses, and isolating unsafe situations
* Completing routine maintenance, calibration, and testing using CMMS job sheets
* Performing repairs and maintenance to ensure plant availability and efficiency
* Installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing electrical equipment and instrumentation to high standards
* Reporting equipment defects and alarms, handling issues safely and effectively
* Disposing of waste in compliance with legislation
* Following permit to work procedures, ensuring hazards are understood and isolations are made prior to work
* Supporting engineering with additional tasks like mechanical work or forklift operation as needed
* Assisting in planning plant maintenance for shutdowns
* Following change management procedures for modifications
* Improving plant operation through electrical and instrumentation support and identifying improvement opportunities
* Providing training or awareness sessions for colleagues
* Supporting the E&I Supervisor and deputizing when required
Role
* Conducting tasks safely, maintaining housekeeping, reporting issues
* Participating in risk assessments, ensuring safety measures are up-to-date
* Maximizing plant efficiency and safety in control equipment operation
* Managing electrical maintenance schedules, minimizing downtime
* Ensuring all electrical work is compliant, properly tested, and calibrated
* Analyzing data to resolve issues and breakdowns
* Reporting activities and faults promptly
* Contributing to departmental performance objectives
* Working flexibly, including out-of-hours work and overtime as needed
* Undertaking training to stay current with new technologies and safety standards
