As part of our continuous commitment to maintaining standards and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, we are seeking a diligent and experienced Compliance Manager to join our team.


Role Overview:

The Compliance Manager will lead the University’s approach to compliance, risk management, and regulatory assurance. The postholder will manage the Compliance Officer and coordinate the delivery of effective compliance systems, ensuring that the institution meets statutory, regulatory, and sector-wide obligations.

This role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and communication skills, alongside an understanding of project management methodologies and experience working within a higher education or complex matrix environment.


Key Responsibilities:


Strategic Compliance Oversight:

* Support the design, implementation, and monitoring of compliance frameworks across the college ; develop internal controls and reporting mechanisms; ensure compliance with OfS, HESA, and statutory obligations.


Leadership and Team Management:

* Support the Head of Quality and Compliance. Manage and mentor the Compliance Officer; oversee workloads, priorities, and staff development; promote a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.


Risk and Business Continuity:

* Support the maintenance of risk management and business continuity processes; Collating documentation, supporting departments, ensure alignment between local and institutional risk activities, and those on other campuses.
* Monitor and maintain compliance of other departments, and work closely with Heads of Departments to ensure compliant processes, and document processes.


Governance and Reporting:

* Prepare and present compliance reports to senior committees; support the Head of Quality and Compliance in governance reviews and audit preparations; ensure effective record-keeping and evidence tracking.


Systems and Process Improvement:

* Develop and optimise compliance systems (e.g., SharePoint, Power BI, Tribal EBS); monitor data integrity; drive automation and digital solutions, support and drive digital ways of working accross the college working culture.


Systems and Process Improvement:

* Work across departments to embed compliance awareness; provide expert guidance and training; foster constructive relationships with academic and professional service areas, work closely with other managers to align processes, collate documentation and compliance resources.


Professional and Sector Engagement:

* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sector regulations and best practice; engage with external bodies and networks to benchmark and enhance institutional compliance maturity.


Qualifications:

* Degree (2:1 or above) or equivalent relevant experience
* Postgraduate qualification in a management, project management compliance, governance, or risk management
* Professional certification in project management (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile) or compliance (e.g., ICA, ISO 31000)
* Membership of a professional body (e.g., Institute of Risk Management, HE Governance Forum)
* In-depth understanding of compliance frameworks, risk management, and business continuity Knowledge of UK higher education regulatory environment (OfS, HESA, UKVI)


Experience:

* Familiarity with project management methodologies and matrix structures
* Understanding of quality assurance or governance systems in HE
* Strong grasp of compliance systems, data management, and reporting processes
* Awareness of audit methodologies and internal control frameworks
* Proven experience managing or leading compliance/risk functions
* Experience in higher education or large public-sector organisation
* Experience managing teams or direct reports
* Experience working with governance committees or external regulators
* Track record of implementing compliance systems and delivering strategic reports, collating evidence
* Experience leading digital transformation or automation initiatives in compliance processes
* Excellent leadership, coaching, and team management skills
* Advanced data analysis and report visualisation (e.g., Power BI)
* Strong communication and influencing skills; able to engage effectively at senior level
* Ability to design and deliver compliance training or workshops
* Analytical, detail-focused, and solutions-oriented. Report writing ability.
* Effective negotiation and stakeholder management skills
* Highly organised with strong project management ability
* Creative and process-improvement mindset
