Overview
Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist – Hillingdon Urgent Care Team (UCT) 10PAs, permanent, full-time. Fixed-term optional opportunities include a special interest in Paediatric Liaison. The post holder will manage young people who present through Hillingdon Hospital Emergency Department and those admitted to paediatric and adult medical wards. Urgent Care Pathway has recently received additional funding to develop short-term crisis intervention (tier 3.5).
Location: Laurel Lodge Clinic & Minet Clinic, Harlington Road, Uxbridge, UB8 3HD. Two clinic sites in the borough with good transport connections and parking. Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 per year + £2,162 London Weighting + 3% on call (1:15) per annum pro rata. Responsibilities
General duties
* Undertake administrative duties associated with patient care
* Record clinical activity accurately and maintain contemporaneous medical notes
* Participate in service and business planning for the locality and the wider mental health service
* Attend internal CPD activities and maintain up-to-date CPD
* Attend monthly consultant meetings and other professional meetings
* Maintain GMC registration, MH Act Section 12(2) and AC approval
* Participate in annual job plan review
* Collaborate with local managers and colleagues to ensure efficient service delivery and contribute to management
* Comply with Trust policies and procedures
Clinical and management duties
* Take a consultant lead role in the local urgent care team
* Provide consultation and medical input to weekly UCT clinical review meetings
* Provide psychiatric assessments as required; support urgent care work at Hillingdon Hospital and 7-day follow-ups
* Lead development of Tier 3.5 Urgent Care Outreach Service for Hillingdon
* Contribute to monthly senior management meetings and crisis pathways; develop joint crisis pathways with the acute hospital
* Attend interface meetings with the Emergency Department and contribute to hospital-wide meetings for young people, including bed escalation discussions
* Provide clinical supervision to psychiatry trainees and specialty doctors as needed
* Lead interface work between UCT and other CAMHS sub-teams and ACTS
* Ensure continuity of consultant input for young people admitted to paediatric and medical wards; act as responsible clinician if required
* Develop paediatric liaison sessions and business case for a paediatric liaison service with the local acute trust
* Participate in case-based discussions with CAMHS colleagues; provide teaching to acute hospital staff, CAMHS colleagues, trainees and medical students
* Facilitate monthly consultation group with the out-of-hours team and produce activity reports for senior management and commissioners
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Full GMC registration with licence to practice
* Section 12 MHA approved; Approved Clinician status (or undertaking to obtain on taking up the post)
* MRCPsych (or equivalent) and Specialist Register for CAMHS
* Higher Psychiatric Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or within 6 months of achieving CCT
* Experience in psychiatric inpatient management of children and adolescents; risk assessment in complex patients
* Competence in child and adolescent psychopharmacology and non-medication therapies; evidence-based practice
* Experience in safeguarding, annual appraisal, multi-disciplinary teaching, and leadership in a multi-disciplinary team
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Desirable Qualifications & Skills
* Higher degrees or additional relevant qualifications; paediatric liaison experience; CBT/DBT or family therapy training
* Publications in Psychiatry; experience with diverse cultural backgrounds; IT skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
* Full UK driving licence
