Job Description:
Teaching Fellow and Academic Assessor - Nursing Associate Higher Apprenticeship (Foundation Degree)
Interview expected to be held 5 July 2024
This role will be based on the university campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
Are you an NMC registered nurse or nursing associate, highly skilled in the education of healthcare staff? Are you experienced in the integration between academic and professional learning? Do you have a commitment to the professional development of the healthcare workforce and an interest in widening participation in Higher Education?
The Lifelong Learning Centre (LLC) at the University of Leeds developed the Nursing Associate Higher Apprenticeship in 2018. In 2022 our apprenticeship provision across the University was rated ‘Good’ by OFSTED in all areas. We are seeking to appoint an experienced registered nurse or nursing associate experienced in Practice Assessment, training or education to act as a Teaching Fellow and Academic Assessor to guide and support apprentices on this higher apprenticeship programme.
As a Teaching Fellow, you will contribute to the teaching modules on the programme. As an Academic Assessor, you will meet with apprentices and their Practice Assessors three times a year to support the development of their knowledge, skills, and behaviors. Our apprentices are experienced health and social care workers who are part of the workforce delivering health and social care in various settings. You will be responsible for preparing and running the academic assessor meetings with the apprentices and for follow-up admin, including identifying areas for development and setting out and monitoring action plans. You will work with the Deputy Programme Manager to ensure all apprentices benefit from and engage appropriately with clinical placements and protected learning time.
The integration between academic and professional learning is a key feature of the programme, so you will need a solid grounding in healthcare, both academically and professionally, and a thorough understanding of the role of the Nursing Associate. You will be a skilled teacher and communicator with an excellent understanding of healthcare practice and familiarity with the NMC standards for Nursing Associates and Supervision and Assessment in Practice.
