Mental Health Carers Support Worker South Somerset

Are you passionate about supporting unpaid carers of people with mental health conditions? We're looking for a compassionate and proactive Mental Health Carers Support Worker to join our team covering the South Somerset area.

In this role, you'll work alongside Senior Support Workers to deliver practical and emotional support to mental health carers. You'll provide information, signposting, and support and co-facilitate support groups and programmes that empower carers and promote independence.

You'll be part of a cross-county, cross-age-range service that values kindness, respect, and teamwork. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of carers while working collaboratively with community mental health teams, social services, and voluntary sector partners.

Main duties of the job

As a Mental Health Carers Support Worker, you will play a key role in supporting unpaid carers of individuals with mental health conditions. Your responsibilities will include:

Delivering support to mental health carers as directed by senior mental health carers support workers.

Promoting the recognition of mental health carers across internal services and external organisations.

Providing information, advice, and signposting to help carers access appropriate services and resources.

Co-facilitating carers support groups and programmes to promote wellbeing and resilience.

Maintaining accurate and timely records in line with Trust policies and contributing to service monitoring and evaluation.

Working collaboratively with community mental health teams, social services, voluntary sector partners, and other stakeholders.

Supporting carers with their emotional, physical, and practical needs, and helping them navigate the challenges of their caring role.

Attending team meetings, supervision, and contributing to service development through feedback and reporting of unmet needs.

Travelling across the locality of South Somerset to meet carers in various settings, including their homes and community venues.

This role requires empathy, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a supportive team.

Job responsibilities

This is a part time (30 hours per week) community post covering the South Somerset locality.

We are a Monday to Friday, 9-5 service.


Qualifications

* Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care or equivalent
* Good standard of English language (written and verbal)
* Additional training or qualifications related to mental health, carer support, or community work
* Knowledge of the Triangle of Care framework


Experience

* Experience working in a mental health or social care setting
* Experience supporting carers of individuals with mental health conditions
* Experience co-facilitating support groups or delivering carer-focused programmes
* Experience working in partnership with voluntary and statutory services


Additional Criteria

* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes
* Willingness to travel across the locality and work flexibly to meet service needs
* Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and Trust values (Kindness, Respect, Teamwork)
* Willingness to use technology to improve care and support delivery
* Understanding of the needs of mental health carers and the impact of caring roles
* Knowledge of local services and support available to carers
* Awareness of financial, legal, and social issues affecting carers (e.g. Carers Allowance, Power of Attorney)
