About the Role Warwickshire is a large rural based County with many farms, other livestock holdings and agricultural premises including a busy livestock market and several abattoirs. We want to strengthen our Animal Health Team and are looking for a highly motivated officer who can take a joint team role in this subject area. Applicants ideally will hold the Certificate of Competency in Animal Health and Welfare or an equivalent qualification. While qualification and competency in animal health would be an advantage it is not essential, and we would consider applicants who have a strong Animal Health inspection background gained from a regulatory role working outside of Local Government and who has a willingness to obtain such qualification. We will also consider applications from qualified Trading Standards Officers wishing to upskill and specialise in this area of work and will provide training and support to enable this to happen, or, from those officers who are prepared to refresh their competency in Animal Health and Welfare, including part qualified Officers whom we can support to achieve the relevant competency required. Warwickshire Trading Standards is a supportive employer and has an excellent track record of investing in its workforce. The role will include attendance at livestock markets, inspection of farms and other livestock premises, dealing with animal welfare issues and other complaints, carrying out investigations and preparing reports for formal action. You will also be involved in our contingency planning for disease outbreaks within Warwickshire. An interest in Feed Hygiene or willingness to undertake training would be advantageous. Key Requirements You will have excellent communication skills (and the ability to deal confidently with a range of stakeholders) and be equally comfortable working both alone and as part of a team of Trading Standards professionals. You will also have excellent organisational skills along with proficient IT skills with the ability to assess and prioritise your workload. You will hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a car that can be used for work (although we do have a small number of pool cars which can be booked by officers). The role is full time, working 37 hours a week, however, we will consider applications from candidates who wish to work on a part time basis. If you are a specialist Animal Health Officer or a Trading Standards Officer with an interest in Animal Health, we would like to hear from you and would encourage you to apply for our Animal Health Officer role.
