Overview
This role involves leading and coordinating the induction, continuing professional development (CPD), training, supervision, and assessment of therapy staff to ensure clinical competencies, educational standards, and service needs are met.
Responsibilities
* Oversee the planning and provision of a structured local induction programme for new clinical staff, ensuring competencies are assessed and Personal Development Plans are in place or reviewed during preceptorship/induction in conjunction with the relevant Clinical Lead.
* Oversee induction of international recruits and return-to-practice to orient staff to local NHS needs and ensure appropriate training on local requirements.
* Identify and address when staff are not achieving clinical competencies, raising concerns with the relevant manager and supporting subsequent procedures.
* Provide documentation of observations and interactions.
* Collaborate with clinical teams and therapy managers to identify education, training, and development needs and develop a comprehensive Training Needs Analysis (TNA) for the department.
* Work with CPD and Learning & Development teams to allocate funds for therapies, in line with the TNA, and handle related inquiries.
* Ensure staff training records are maintained and updated in accordance with Trust protocols; provide clinical teaching to OT, PT, and TI staff within competence, including sessions to large groups.
* Ensure training provided meets standards required by professional accreditations, Higher Education Institutes, and other relevant bodies (e.g., OFSTED), and aligns with evidence-based practice in OT/Physio.
* Identify resources or facilities necessary for training and education of therapies staff; help define training and educational standards for therapies staff/services.
* Coordinate and conduct in-house therapy training (e.g., manual handling, mental capacity, cognition) with support from senior clinicians; support peer group leads in organizing meetings and ensuring actions are completed.
* Provide supervision and mentorship within the scope of clinical competency, ensuring feedback is constructive and based on theory and practical experience.
* Support staff who are struggling to meet clinical competencies by providing honest feedback and reporting to management as required; spend 1:1 clinical time with newly registered staff as needed.
* Maintain confidentiality regarding staff capability, manage sensitive situations, and provide professional judgments and feedback on staff clinical capabilities; record evidence for personal files.
* Communicate effectively to ensure training needs are met, recorded, and monitored; promote an environment of learning through experience and establish channels for staff to highlight training needs; lead on reviewing and updating clinical competencies band 2-7 to meet service needs.
