Role Overview As a Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other staff to support children who may struggle with behaviour, emotional regulation, or learning difficulties. Your role will involve helping them stay focused, feel safe, and build confidence in the classroom. Key Responsibilities of Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) One-to-One Support: Provide individual support to students who need help managing their emotions or behaviour. Small Group Work: Lead or assist with small group activities that help children stay engaged and learn effectively. Encouraging Positive Behaviour: Help students understand and manage their emotions in a positive way. Creating a Safe Environment: Support a calm and welcoming classroom where all students feel included and respected. Working as a Team: Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and other professionals to provide the best support for each child. Monitoring Progress: Keep track of student progress and share updates with the teaching team. What We’re Looking For Experience working with children who have SEMH needs or similar challenges. A caring, patient, and understanding approach. Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others. A strong interest in helping children grow and succeed.
