Are you experienced in the development and delivery of teaching and assessment in Urban Planning and Resilience? Do you have an emerging record in research and experience of producing high quality research outputs in Urban Planning? If yes, then this part time, fixed term post may be ideal.
The School of Arts and Architecture hosts an RTPI accredited MSc in Urban Planning and Resilience, which is strongly supported by Planning Departments in Local Authorities and private practices across the South East. The course brings together a range of theory and practice, enabling students to explore several facets of planning education, acquire a varied range of skills, and embark on a career in professional practice.
The University of Kent is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer to develop and deliver innovative and engaging teaching to students on programmes in the School, and to undertake internationally excellent research in the subject area. The role will also be responsible for administrative and support activities, working collaboratively towards School and University strategic aims. The role will contribute to knowledge exchange activities in the discipline as well as learning and teaching on agreed programmes, with research-backed knowledge and expertise in urban planning theory, policy and design.
The role is offered on an Education and Research (E&R) contract, appropriate for candidates with a strong research record and trajectory, contributing high quality outputs in the relevant field, and able to enhance the University’s research profile for the subject area.
As a Senior Lecturer in Urban Planning and Resilience you can expect to be involved in:
* Challenging thinking, fostering debate and developing the ability of students to engage in critical discourse and creative thinking on the theories of planning and resilience and the challenges of delivering sustainable development with net zero commitments in mind
* Delivering and contributing to the design of high quality, demand-driven and student-centred teaching in a variety of settings, including developing own teaching and learning support materials, methods and approaches to meet the learning objectives and requirements of the course
* Contributing to the development of the curriculum in the area of planning and resilience, and convening and teaching appropriate modules
* Disseminating research findings through various means including writing or contributing to internationally excellent papers in high-quality publications and presentation at conferences, furthering the research profile of the School and the external visibility&reputation of the University of Kent
What will you bring to the role?
* PhD in planning or cognate discipline, or equivalent experience/qualification
* An emerging record of international excellence in research commensurate with career stage and experience of producing high quality research outputs in urban planning
* Sufficient breadth&depth of specialist knowledge in urban planning and resilience to teach within the established postgraduate MSc course, and support associated undergraduate courses
* Ability to develop, deliver and supervise high quality undergraduate&postgraduate research projects in the field
