Futureheads have partnered with a leading digital agency specialising in public sector technology to support a Government Project, sourcing experienced contractors to join a team working at the heart of one of the most technically ambitious publishing platforms in government.
This is an outside IR35 engagement, initially contracted for 3 months with strong expectation of extension, as these are long-running strategic projects. The start date is early April 2026, or as close to that as possible.
We are looking for a Senior Business Analyst (up to £630/day all-in) to lead analysis across three interconnected workstreams: GraphQL enablement, API discovery, and app prioritisation as the team transitions to becoming API-centric.
GraphQL Enablement
You will gather and document requirements for enabling GraphQL across multiple channels, mapping both current and future architecture, and defining what each application needs from GraphQL. You will be heavily involved in planning the work — identifying what remains to be done, asking the right questions of the wider team, leading discussions where needed, and determining what is most important and urgent. From there, you will decide which technical areas should be explored first and build out a project plan grounded in clear requirements and a well-defined definition of done.
API Discovery
You will take existing research and translate it into clear requirements or user needs, bringing more rigour and structure than a user researcher alone would provide. You will define the requirements for authentication and map out the full API journey from the user's perspective, working collaboratively with user research and service design where relevant.
Prioritising Apps (Becoming an API-Centric Team)
You will map dependencies between applications and teams, and conduct analysis to identify which apps offer the highest value — working with the team to define what value means in this context. You will define priority levels for apps, potentially using metrics or a more nuanced model, and establish a clear process for handling opportunities within lower priority applications.
About you:
* Proven experience as a Senior BA on complex technical programmes, ideally within government or public sector digital delivery
* Strong understanding of API architecture and the ability to work confidently alongside engineering teams
* Skilled at turning ambiguous technical problems into clear, structured requirements
* Experienced in dependency mapping, prioritisation frameworks, and stakeholder-led planning
* Comfortable leading discussions and driving decisions in a multidisciplinary team
* Familiarity with GOV.UK standards and the GDS way of working is a strong advantage
