About the Role & Safeguarding
Smile Education are currently recruiting Exam Invigilators to support secondary schools in Oldham during the upcoming May exam period from May 11th to mid-June.
The schools we work with provide supportive, well‑structured environments for pupils and are fully committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, fairness, and safeguarding throughout the examination process.
Successful applicants will play a vital role in ensuring examinations are conducted in line with JCQ regulations, supporting pupils in a calm and professional manner, and maintaining a secure, organised exam environment. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a dedicated school team during a busy and important exam season.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Supervising students before, during, and after examinations
Ensuring exam conditions are maintained in line with JCQ regulations
Setting up examination rooms, including distributing and collecting papers and materials
Issuing clear instructions and supporting candidates in line with exam guidelines
Monitoring behaviour and maintaining a quiet, focused environment
Providing support for candidates requiring scribing or reading where appropriate
Escorting students as required, including supervising rest breaks
Reporting any issues, irregularities, or concerns to senior staff
Ensuring all safeguarding, health and safety procedures are followed at all times
The Successful Candidate Will:
Hold an exam invigilation qualification or equivalent
Have experience working as an exam invigilator or within a school environment (preferred)
Be reliable, punctual, well‑presented, and highly organised
Demonstrate a strong understanding of JCQ regulations and exam conduct
Have read and understood the JCQ Instructions for Conducting Examinations (ICE) booklet
Have clear written and verbal English communication skills to ensure all instructions are clearly understood by students.
Be calm, professional, and confident supervising secondary‑aged pupils
Understand and uphold safeguarding and child‑protection responsibilitiesFull guidance and role‑specific information will be provided where required.
