A great opportunity has arisen for a Hands-On Structural Welder / Fabricator Manager or Supervisor to lead workshop operations while remaining actively involved in fabrication and welding tasks. The successful candidate will oversee a small, skilled team, ensure high-quality output, manage workflow, and uphold safety and compliance standards. We welcome candidates who are ready to step up from a senior fabricator/welder role into leadership. Key Responsibilities Lead and supervise a team of welders and fabricators. Oversee daily workflow, task allocation, and production scheduling. Maintain a positive, productive workshop environment. Mentor less-experienced team members and support skill development. Carry out MIG/TIG/MMA welding on structural and architectural steel. Fabricate steel components from technical drawings, including beams, frames, staircases, handrails, and bespoke fabrications. Ensure all welds and fabrication work meet BSEN 1090 and company quality standards. Operate workshop machinery (saws, drills, press brakes, etc.). Maintain strict adherence to company quality systems and UKCA-approved processes. Ensure quality control checks are completed throughout the fabrication process. Promote and enforce workshop health & safety procedures. Liaise with structural engineers, designers, and project managers to confirm specifications. Support project planning and provide technical input where required. Assist with material planning and stock control. Help ensure deadlines and project milestones are met. Beneficial Skills / Qualifications: Strong background in structural steel fabrication and welding. Ability to read and interpret detailed fabrication drawings. Experience producing high-quality welds across a variety of processes (MIG essential). Understanding of fabrication tolerances, structural steelwork, and workshop machinery. Strong organisational skills and ability to lead by example. Confident communicator with a hands-on, problem-solving approach. Experience working within BSEN 1090 environments. Previous supervisory or team-leading experience (not essential if stepping up). Knowledge of Tekla-generated drawings Coded welder qualifications. Hard-working, proactive, and takes pride in producing top-quality fabrication work. Natural team leader - supportive but firm when needed. Quality-driven, with strong attention to detail.
