Medical Secretary - Colorectal and Upper GI

We are looking for a motivated and proactive individual to join the Colorectal and Upper GI secretarial team at York Hospital.
This post is perfect for applicants with a background in administration looking to step up into a senior secretarial role within a fast‑paced, cutting‑edge clinical service.
The role involves taking a lead in providing comprehensive secretarial and PA support to consultants in Colorectal and Upper GI, and their teams. The role also requires excellent communication, engaging with patients, assisting with queries and concerns, and liaising with wider clinical networks and multidisciplinary teams.
Applicants should be proficient at typing and have recent experience in digital dictation, as well as recent secretarial/administrative experience. Knowledge of medical vocabulary is an advantage, although not essential.
Main duties of the job
* Typing of clinic and discharge letters
* Consultant diary management
* Maintaining patient information and clinical systems
* Dealing with correspondence from patients and GP's
* Ensuring referral to treatment and cancer tracking targets are met
* Typing of multi‑disciplinary team meeting notes

Qualifications
* GCSE English Language, Grade C or above (or equivalent)
Experience
* Minimum 2 years secretarial/administrative experience
* Experience using a variety of IT applications, including Microsoft Office
* Experience of staff supervision
* NHS experience
Skills
* Ability to get on well with members of a team
* Proficient audio typist with ability to accurately transcribe complex audio and medical information while subject to frequent interruption
* Excellent organisational skills
* Ability to manage and prioritise conflicting deadlines and pressures
